South Beach Diet - All foods allowed in the First 2 week phase
The first 2 weeks of the South Beach Diet are critical if you want to lose weight long term. This phase restricts carbohydrates by eliminating all the BAD carbs - refined starch, sugar, potatoes, rice, bread etc..
The goal of the first two week phase is to help you 'wean off' carbohydrate cravings by eliminating the wide swings in blood sugar levels.The wide swings in blood sugar, causing the cravings, are caused by eating these bad carbs.
Here are the authorized carbohydrates you can eat during this critical 2 week phase:
Phase I: Authorized Carbohydrates
- Vegetables:
- Artichokes
- asparagus
- beans (black, butter, chickpeas, green, Italian, kidney, lentils, lima, pigeon, soy, split peas, wax),
- broccoli
- cabbage
- cauliflower
- celery
- collard greens
- cucumbers
- eggplant, lettuce (all varieties)
- mushrooms (all varieties)
- snow peas
- spinach
- sprouts (alfalfa)
- turnips
- water chestnuts
- zucchini
- Sweet treats (limit to 75 calories per day): Candies (hard, sugar-free), chocolate powder (no-sugar-added), cocoa powder (baking type), sugar-free fudgsicles, sugar-free gelatin, sugar-free gum, sugar-free popsicles, sugar substitute.
