cookie diet
DR SANFORD SIEGAL'S "COOKIE DIET" is the craze partialy due to it's off the wall name and strange concept.
After examining how the diet really works, you see that it is not all that profound, and primarily works by strictly monitoring caloric intake, with a few twists. How novel.
What is unique is how Dr. Siegal has creatively marketed his unique cookies as "between meal diet snacks".
Siegal claims patients lose 15 pounds per month.
What's the theory?
This diet is based on consuming 800 calories daily.
This is accomplished by eating one meal a day - consisting of 6 ounces of lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish or seafood only), plus one cup of vegetables.
When hungry you eat up to 6 "diet cookies " any time during the day. These cookies, Siegal claims, have an appetite suppressing effect.
Is This Diet Healthy?
Eating only one meal a day is questionable from a nutritional standpoint. Especially since consuming only one cup of vegetables daily contradicts accepted dietary requiremrents.
Major complaints with the cookie diet stem from lack of energy. Others argue that this program lacks sufficient vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Will this Diet Work Long Term?
QUESTIONABLE - Any diet that restricts caloric intake to 800 calories will surely result in weight loss, but at what cost? This diet doesn't seem like a good long term weight loss or maintainance solution. HOWEVER, for short term weight loss it can be very successful.
Experts Opinion
As a long term diet solution, the South Beach Dietmight be a better choice. For most, the "Cookie Diet" is far to restrictive and unrealistic to be a long term weight loss solution.
